Taho: A Filipino street food

Everyday, i walk to work for about 1 kilometer. Not because there's no vehicle to ride on and not because I don't have money for the fare. I walk to work because there are some unloading constraints of buses. The place where I alight is the bus stop station and these is still far from where I work. Meanwhile, as I walk along the pavement of the streets, I always encounter TAHO vendors. Sometimes, I bought some Taho to fill-up my stomach because I rarely eat my breakfast since I'm always in a hurry and I live too far from work which is more than an hour travel. This gave me an idea to make a blog for the TAHO. So here you go...

Jaw-Breaking Singing Performance

This is the most outrageous yet amazing singing performance I have ever seen. The vocal prowess of these two women, Jennifer Holiday and Jessica Sanchez is phenomenal. This is their performance in the Finals of the American Idol 2012. Philip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez were the 2 finalists.  As the total votes were cast, Philip Phillips was declared the winner of the competition.  In my opinion, Jessica Sanchez should have won the title because in terms of singing capabilities, she's way ahead and better than Philip. The Idol judges would agree with that. Anyway, for me and for most Filipinos, Jessica Sanchez will always be the winner in our hearts. See this amazing performance I'm talking about.

ThunderCats: My Childhood Fave Cartoon

Most of us have our own favorite cartoons or cartoon character back in our childhood days. I believe some were still a fan of it up to the time they grow older. I was born in 1985 so living in a third world country, technology in that time would be low-end. In fact, our television video that time was not colored but black and white. I was 5 years old then when I get to watch a particular cartoon series that I really like. And it's called "ThunderCats".   I don't know how many people are familiar with this cartoon series but i think many would know as I find this an awesome cartoon. For the benefit of everybody, I would like to pull-out some infos about it.   ThunderCats is an American media franchise based on a fictional group of cat-like humanoid alien characters created by Tobin "Ted" Wolf. The characters were originally featured in a TV series named ThunderCats, running from 1985 to 1989. Lion-O:Lion-O, the Lord of the Thudercats, is not as he appears. Although his body is fully developed, his mind is that of a child. With the Sword of Omens and enchanted claw shield at his side Lion-O has powers that rival those of all the Thundercats. With Jaga's guidance, in "spirit" form, Lion-O has learned to trust in the Sword of Omens and the Code that binds all Thunderians.

How Humans Will Look Like In 100,000 years

So is this what we're evolving toward? Well, maybe. What you see above is the result of a thought experiment by artist Nickolay Lamm and Dr. Alan Kwan, who holds a PhD in computation genomics from Washington University. They put their heads together and batted some ideas around about where we might end up in the distant future. Is this a hardcore scientific prediction? No, and it's not meant to be (although a lot of sources are making out like it is).   It makes an interesting story to pretend that this is the result of some state-of-the-art genomic model, but there's an important distinction here; this isn't a 'what will be', this is a 'what may be' — the potential end result of 100,000 years of our genetic tinkering, interstellar travel and even changes in taste. Easy to predict? No.

The Strangest Things Pinoys Like To Eat

Pritong tipaklong (fried grasshoppers) are perfect as pulutan.   Beyond balut (boiled duck embryo), the Philippines’ rich fauna yield a wide variety of what is usually considered exotic food. Frogs, grasshoppers, eel, beetles—these are just some of the more adventurous ingredients some Filipinos like to work with. But for them, these are less of a delicacy, more of a regular part of the menu. Want a dose of some Philippine exoticism? Check out what some Pinoys like to cook up in their audacious kitchen! Ilocos Pritong tipaklong (grasshopper). In the fable, the grasshopper may have sung and played and lived a carefree life. But in real life, grasshoppers are the boon of farmers because these insects eat crops. Fried grasshoppers are crunchy and said to taste like shrimp! They are said to be a good source of protein. Inihaw na salagubang (beetle). Beetles cooked until crispy are usually eaten as pulutan, with the wings and legs usually removed. Another High-End Mall Opens In The Philippines

Reports said the mall’s architect Architect Willy Cosculluela “drew inspiration from nature, creating a sculptural form that conjures images of the flow of water, the grace of air, and the strata of the earth.”   It added that SM Aura Premier is also committed to sustainable design and development through green architecture, citing the building’s pollution and waste management systems, water treatment facility to recycle water for non-potable use and a green roof “designed to reduce the heat island effect in the structure,” as well as bicycle paths and landscaped recreational areas around the mall.

Nokia Launches First Phablet

The Lumia 625 is a low-spec, low-cost oversized handset that could well have mass appeal. Rumors and, of course full-blown leaks -- including press shots and specification sheets -- hinted strongly that the "Something Big" that Nokia was set to launch was an affordable Lumia phablet. And low and behold, at 9am UK time Tuesday morning, the Finnish phonemaker unveiled the Lumia 625 -- the world's first Windows Phone phablet. Despite being the biggest Nokia to date, the 625 will sit rather low in the deck in terms of performance. This is a low-to-mid-range device with a large 4.7-inch IPS LCD (i.e., low resolution) display, a dual core processor, half a GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage -- which at least can be expanded to 64GB via microSD card (7GB of free SkyDrive cloud storage also comes as standard). Why Do Mosquito Bites Itch?

First of all, only female mosquitoes bite. Furthermore, when a female mosquito bites you, she is actually not biting you at all. What happens is this: Her large needle-like mouth part, called a proboscis, probes your skin when she lands on you looking for a blood vessel. When she finds one, she sucks out some blood, leaving behind a little of her saliva, which acts as an anticoagulant as she is sucking up your blood and allows her to feast more efficiently. Our body has a natural immune response to the foreign mosquito saliva and creates histamines, thereby causing the skin around the bite to itch.  A mosquito bite doesn't always itch right away. Sometimes it can take a couple

Don't Watch Your Back, Watch Your Hair

They already endure staggering levels of street crime. Now, Venezuelans have something new to fear -- muggers who chop off their hair. Members of the scissor-wielding street gangs are called piranas, after the flesh-eating fish. The gangs sell the stolen hair to salons which fashion it into braids in this oil-rich and beauty-obsessed country. Some disconsolate women have given up and had their long hair cut off preemptively to donate it to children who lose theirs to cancer. Vanessa Castillo cried as her pretty, long jet black hair was snipped for charity. "It is better to give it to kids with cancer than have the piranas steal it," she said, sniffling. She spoke at a donate-your-hair-to-kids day at a beauty salon. "Is this what we have come to? For there to be people who steal your hair is a form of chaos," said Castillo, a 26-year-old dental student. The alarms went off last month in Maracaibo, Venezuela's second largest city, with the first complaints of hair-stealing commandos made up of men and women.
